Return addresses aren’t typically done by the calligrapher – they’re usually done by embossing, labeling, printed by your stationer, or stamping. However, if done by the calligrapher, the return address is usually a simple, two-line address on the back flap for an additional, smaller fee. (Ask me about designing a matching return address stamp for your stationery suite)!

If it isn’t repairable, I start over! The standard in the industry is for the calligrapher to receive a number of extra envelopes equal to 15% of your total addresses. Hand lettering is very human and ink and paper are capricious creatures - mistakes will happen. All envelopes are returned to you.

The best lists are on a Google doc. I can track my work and you can peek in at any time and check on the progress of the project. However, any digital form will work well.

Yes: if you've shared your list on Google docs, you can see my progress on your project at any time. If I haven't completed the address in question, you can freely edit it. If I've already completed the address, you can add the corrected address to the bottom of the list as an additional invitation.

Absolutely. Paper that is too slick or shimmery repels ink slightly - making the elegant hairlines and flourishing less subtle. Paper that is absorbent or fibrous takes ink “too” well and the strokes feather into the paper. This rules out handmade papers and craft papers. (There are often remedies for paper that is less than ideal). Fortunately, wedding stationery is usually manufactured to be perfectly suited to calligraphy tools.

It happens. Typically, I keep any extra envelopes until about the time of the event. If an invitation is returned for any reason, or you need to include a new guest, you and I will be set for action.
