Show on the mapNearly every kind of wedding needs wedding transportation. Even the smallest of hometown celebrations will require people to move from one place to another. And by coordinating and offering something special to your guests, you’re ensuring your big day feels special from start to finish.
The amount of wedding vehicles required will depend on your guest count, and where you’re holding the ceremony and reception. If you have a large wedding party, and the ceremony space and/or reception venue is not in walking distance then you should hire something appropriate for the guests, and the distance they need to travel.
For example, a bus that seats 20, and can allow for 10 standing is fine if you have young guests traveling, who don’t mind being on their feet. But if the journey is longer than 10 to 15 minutes, you either need to split people up, or find something more suitable for the trip.
The priority passengers on the wedding day are of course yourselves, the marrying couple. And you may choose to travel to the venue independently of the rest of the wedding party, or just with your close family and friends. As the bride, make sure the car or bus you take to the ceremony offers enough room to sit comfortably in your dress. While also not posing too much difficultly exiting and entering.
If you do decide to travel with your wedding party, choose wedding transportation that you’ll be proud to show off in your wedding photography. As excited shots of everyone making their way to and from the ceremony are often much loved photo album moments. Plus, it only heightens the whole experience, if you’re sipping champagne in a fancy limo, or party bus.
Budget depending, your out-of-town guests will really appreciate getting picked up from their hotel, and potentially dropped off later that night. It can really put a strain on events, especially for older relatives, if they need to organize taxis etc themselves. At least by doing this, you’ll know everyone is safe, and that they’ll all arrive on time!
When booking shuttle buses to take guests home at night, be sure to book an early one, as well as a late one. The majority of your loved ones will be happy to dance the night away until the sun comes up, but there will be those who just can’t last that long. Parents with young children, and older relatives, should have the option to dip out of celebrations when the time is right.
As with all vendors, we have a wide range of wedding transportation available to browse on Wedding Planning Assistant. Making it easier for you to decide which style, or size of vehicle/s is right for you. Maybe a school bus for you and 45 of your wedding guests? Or would you prefer something more luxurious, like a coach?
If your wedding budget is tight, and you have someone capable of driving people around on the day, you could consider self-driving. This isn’t always possible with larger buses, but with something like a Sprinter van or a car, it’s quite normal to drive it yourself. This cuts down on the cost of having a driver, and needing to pay them to wait around for you.
The only downside to this, of course, is that your driver/s needs to stay stone-cold sober and wide awake during the wedding. To safely take wedding guests back to their pre-arranged stops. Not always easy to do…!
Be sure to book up your wedding transportation early in the planning process, especially if you have a specific type or look of vehicle in mind. Unique buses and coaches get hired for peak season well in advance, meaning you may be disappointed if you leave it too long. About 4 to 6 months before the big day should be about right.
