The photo captures a serene moment of elegance as a woman sits gracefully on a set of outdoor steps, enveloped in an exquisite, voluminous pastel-colored wedding gown in soft shades of peach or blush. The gown’s dramatic tulle skirt cascades around her in layers of delicate ruffles, pooling gently on the ground and creating an ethereal, cloud-like effect. What Color Were Wedding Dresses Before They Were White?
The idea of wearing a color other than white or ivory as a bride feels distinctly modern. But in reality, the trend for non-colored wedding dresses is pretty fresh. Kind of!
Before 1840, (we'll come back to this date) wedding dresses were colorful, and varied. Reds, blues, pinks, and even black were all worn by brides. And this was largely due to economics, as back then it was only the elite who could afford to commission, or buy a special dress for the occasion. Meaning the dress they wore on their big day was typically either handed down from a family member, or it was their one formal dress. A dress worn to every special occasion.
These formal dresses were always colored, red being the most popular. And this had a lot to do with the good fortune and strength this color was meant to bring. But it was also because red was a cheap color to create! Fabric back in the West in the 19th century was typically dyed with clay, as that was readily available. This abundant natural material created various earthy tones such as orange, yellow, and red. This method of fabric coloring would've been relatively inexpensive, especially when compared to using blue or green dyes, for example, which would have likely been imported.
Brides also wore colorful wedding dresses because the bleaching of fabrics was a costly affair, and quite a new technique. Which meant that when, in 1840, Queen Victoria married Prince Albert wearing a white dress, it caused quite a stir. White quickly became a key part of the 'the bridal look' for rich and wealthy brides. But, unlike today, trends didn't travel so fast. And it would take over 10 years before non-elite brides in the UK, at least, were wearing white.
Queen Victoria's decision to wear a white wedding dress is thought to be down to the royal family's desire to promote UK lace production. A skilled trade they knew could be profitable worldwide if people discovered it. Choosing a white dress meant the lace was better showcased than it would have been on another color.
Suffice to say, lace became just as popular as white bridal did. And Queen Victoria's wearing of it on her wedding day almost certainly led to its popularity with modern brides today.

Black wedding dress
Black bridal is no longer considered solely for fans of the occult, and those in mourning. Modern brides are now embracing, and redefining this shade to create elegant, statement looks that are in keeping with their natural style. An important aspect to keep in mind when shopping for non-traditional wedding dresses.
There are ways to make black work for a special day, no matter the season. But in general, black works best during Fall/Winter. As the shade is more in keeping with the mood of the darker, moody seasons. Black looks stunning on a multitude of different fabrics, but we love it particularly on lace, tulle, and Mikado. These varied fabrics all offer different vibes, with the latter creating more of a modern look. Great on A-lines and ballgowns.
In this captivating image, a woman stands majestically in a vast, desert-like landscape, the pristine white sand dunes stretching endlessly under a vivid blue sky. She wears a striking, floor-length black gown adorned with intricate lace detailing, a perfect fusion of elegance and drama. The gown’s sheer long-sleeved bodice, with a deep V-neckline, is embellished with black floral lace appliqué, offering a bold yet delicate contrast against the semi-sheer fabric. The full skirt, made of layers of black tulle and lace, flows behind her, catching the wind and adding a sense of movement and grace to the scene. Her short, blonde hair is styled loosely, softening her mysterious allure, while statement earrings glimmer subtly, enhancing her glamorous look. The stark, sunlit landscape highlights the contrast between the barren beauty of the surroundings and the dark, refined elegance of her gown, creating an unforgettable, almost otherworldly moment of grace and power.

Gold wedding dress
What could be more luxurious than a gold wedding dress! Whether it's more of a soft champagne, or something brighter, and sparklier. You will not fail to look dazzling in this fabulous hue.
Gold offers a multitude of different color options, making it a very versatile color to choose, not just in terms of your wedding day look, but also the theme of the day. Because what color doesn't go with gold! Just think how opulent your shiny gold dress will look against a black or deep green backdrop. Or perhaps you'd prefer something more subtle, and modern, like a rose gold gown halter with a pastel blue theme. If you don't feel comfortable in having an entirely gold gown, you could bring in some colored appliques to your classic white or ivory gown. A lovely way to gift yourself a touch of color, without going full on gold.
The photo captures a glamorous couple bathed in the soft, golden glow of the setting sun, evoking a scene of timeless elegance. The woman, positioned in the foreground, stuns in a floor-length gold sequin gown that sparkles as it catches the fading light. The backless design, with thin straps and a full, flowing skirt, accentuates her grace and poise. Her dark, wavy hair cascades over her shoulders as she gazes confidently over her shoulder toward the camera, her expression one of effortless sophistication. Behind her, the man stands in a classic black tuxedo, exuding calm composure as he too glances toward the camera. Pink wedding dress
We are positively crushing on blush right now, and in love with all things fuchsia. But there are so many other fabulous pink hues you could wear on your wedding day. Making it the perfect color choice for coordinating with a theme or your skin tone. Whether you go for whimsical, soft pink and dreamy. Or maybe something a little more vibrant, bright and hot pink!
Softer pinks look stunning on tulle, lace, and satin. Especially when applied to floaty, less structured styles. If you want to go darker, or brighter, look to organza and weightier fabrics. Alongside a heavier dress construction. Gowns in fuchsia and bright pink look stunning when applied to more defined shapes.
This enchanting image captures a romantic scene, where a couple walks hand-in-hand through a grassy field, surrounded by ancient stone ruins and lush greenery. The woman is a vision of elegance, wearing a pastel pink gown with layers of ruffled tulle that cascade down her back in a voluminous, sweeping train. A sheer, cape-like detail drapes softly over her shoulders, enhancing the ethereal beauty of her gown. Her hair is styled with a large matching pink bow, adding a whimsical touch to her already dreamy ensemble. Beside her, the man, dressed in a classic black suit, walks in quiet harmony. Together, they stroll away from the camera, moving towards the historic ruins that frame the background, adding a sense of timelessness to the scene. The moment feels intimate and magical, evoking a fairytale-like atmosphere as they journey through the serene and beautiful landscape.

Red wedding dress
The mother of all things pink, red is a classic wedding color, and an iconic hue to tie the knot in. This color is steeped in tradition and meaning, almost universally thought to bring good luck and fortune to whoever wears it.
Red is certainly not for the feint hearted bride, as it is a bold and striking color. If you do want to wear red, but not entirely steal the show. Tone down your ensemble by dressing in slimmer silhouettes, and wearing a less structured style. This should allow you to make a statement, rather than hog the limelight. You could also mute your choice of red and opt for a darker shade. Like burgundy for example, a really adult, and sophisticated color that'll work so well with an elegant evening reception.
In this stunning image, a woman strides gracefully down a cobblestone street, her presence radiating elegance and sophistication. She wears a striking red gown, its sheer fabric adorned with intricate floral appliqué that cascades from the fitted bodice to the voluminous skirt, each detail exuding a sense of timeless beauty. Thin spaghetti straps and a corset-style bodice emphasize her silhouette, enhancing the gown’s delicate craftsmanship. Her dark, wavy hair falls just above her shoulders, framing her face with a soft, natural elegance, while statement earrings add a touch of glamour. With a confident expression and poised stride, she commands attention, moving effortlessly through the charming, European-style city. The blurred backdrop of old stone buildings and casually dressed pedestrians serves as a subtle contrast to her formal attire, highlighting the fusion of modern city life and timeless couture. This moment captures the essence of refined grace in an urban landscape.

A deep tone that's ideal for a romantic celebration during the cooler months.
Green is a great choice of wedding dress color for all brides, no matter their skin type or hair color. But as a general rule, lighter shades look best on fairer brides, while darker colors look stunning on those with a deeper skin tone. Redheads look stunning in a darker green too! In this tender image, a couple shares a romantic moment on a narrow gravel path, embraced by the beauty of nature. The woman, dressed in a breathtaking deep emerald green gown with a flowing train, holds a bouquet of delicate white and blue flowers. He, dressed in a light grey tweed suit paired with a crisp white shirt and dark tie, gently kisses her forehead, a gesture of quiet affection. The lush green foliage and hills surrounding them create a natural sanctuary, with verdant cliffs rising in the distance beneath a serene, overcast sky. The scene exudes peace and intimacy, capturing a moment of deep connection between the couple, set against the timeless beauty of the landscape.

This particular shade would look gorgeous back dropped by the beach, blending so naturally with the golden sands and rolling seas. While darker blues, like navy, would be the perfect choice for a post sunset reception. Maybe surrounded by rich mahogany walls and leather lounging furniture. A luxurious setting for a sophisticated color tone.
In this enchanting image, a woman stands with graceful poise in a lavish, vintage-inspired room that exudes timeless luxury. Her sleek hair is pulled back, accentuating her serene beauty as she gazes upward with quiet confidence, hands resting on her hips. The opulent setting around her, adorned with classical paintings, intricate molding, and antique furniture, complements the scene’s grandeur. A white chair sits behind her, blending harmoniously with the soft pastel tones of both the room and her gown, enhancing the atmosphere of sophisticated elegance. This is a portrait of grace, style, and timeless allure.
