Our service has assisted tens of thousands of couples worldwide in planning their dream weddings!
Create the Perfect Welcome Message with Our Wedding Website Examples & Hints
Even the most creative couples need a little inspiration when faced with the task of creating a wedding website from scratch. Especially when it comes to the 'our story' section. A uniquely personal piece to write together, one that requires sharing a collective personality, as well as your own. Not a simple task! Which is why we thought sharing a few wedding website examples created by our own couples may inspire your online space, and in turn help you write your love story.
What is 'Our Story' on a Wedding Website?
The 'our story' section of your wedding website offers an opportunity to take a trip down memory lane, and bring some extra personality to your site. An insight into your relationship and how you got to this point. Now, we know it's tempting to think that your guest list will know how they popped the question, and could almost write your story section for you! But not every guest present will know you that well.
Unless you're planning a super intimate wedding day, with only immediate family and best friends present, there will always be plus ones and extra guests there who don't know you both at all well. A good, genuine 'our story' section will help bring all wedding guests up to speed, and allow everyone to get excited about your big day!

What to Include in the 'Our Story' on your Wedding Website
We break down the key parts your 'about us' section should (not must) include.
Design a wedding website
An Introduction
As we mentioned, not every guest will know you intimately. Therefore, it's important to introduce yourselves and set the scene. Share a few details about each other as individuals before beginning to write as a couple. Your names are a good place to start! Then maybe where you're from, where you're at and what you like doing. Nothing forced, nor contrived. Just a few details that'll help guests understand you both better.
Share Your Story Together in Order
We would always suggest making your text as easy to read as possible. It might be tempting to jump back and forth between life events, flexing your writing skills, but it's just going to be confusing for the reader.
Break things down, and write chronologically. Where did you meet? What was your dating journey like? Did you have any big trips? Poignant events? And then the proposal story. Build up to that final (hopefully) sweet story by giving the reader the full history of events up to that point. Trust us, your wedding party will be more blown away by your romantic wedding story if it's written with a thoughtful build up.
Finish Up with a Few Words About the Wedding Day
To nicely round off your walk down memory lane, it's good to look towards the future, and your wedding date. Just a couple of lines about how you can't wait to celebrate with everyone, and what a milestone your wedding ceremony will be in your story. The rest is history!

Thomas & Claudia
This is a wonderful example of a moving story where a chance encounter blossomed into true love, inspiring journeys across the globe!
Anne & Marty
Anne and Marty's big day was a relaxed, yet sophisticated affair down by the water in Northern Sydney. They reflected their love of the coast in their beach filled engagement photos, while also hinting at the color theme of the day with their green and yellow font choices.
Their story is not without twists and turns but beyond doubt, it is a story of devotion, friendship, and unwavering belief that two people who fell in love can and will share a beautiful life together.
We love Anne and Marty's story because it makes us feel like we're right there with them! In just a few short lines, we're all on that beach, sharing in their very special moment.
Khanh & Minh
Setting the tone for your future celebration is so key when designing a wedding website, and Khanh & Minh did that so well with theirs. Creating Bond-esque levels of suave and elegance with their engagement photos. While also letting guests know exactly what color palette they could expect to see, and be a part of. In comparison to their refined engagement photography, their story feels so sweet.
Jose & Ana
These guys show exactly what makes their union special in their use of photography, and thoughtful text. Their beautiful wedding website features some stunning photos of the couple taken during their many adventures, which not only help display just how close these two best friends are. But also gives a hint at their rustic, natural wedding theme.
Not every love story needs to be epic, or overly emotional to help convey the love two people have for each other. And Jose and Ana are the perfect example of that.
Niki & Radek
For Niki and Radek, life is for adventure, and their wedding website makes that easy for guests to understand. Their fun engagement shots are wild and romantic, inviting us into their love story before even hearing their story! The overall design of their wedding site has been kept simple to allow their impactful photography to shine through, and not distract from their words.
'Our Story' Writing Tips for Your Wedding Website
No two love stories are the same, and every wedding website is different. Don't believe anyone who says there are rules you need to follow when writing your wedding website about us section. But if you're looking for guidance, here's our tips for writing yours.
Build your wedding website
Think About the POV
Couples traditionally write 'our story' in the 3rd person. For example, 'It was a frosty, yet bright Spring morning when Jasper got down on one knee in front of Serena and asked her to be his wife'. Writing in this style helps to add a little extra romance to your tale, and often makes it easier to put together. We've found that couples find it strange to boast about their love story, or even talk openly about themselves in the first person. But as soon as they take themselves out of the equation, and start writing about each other as characters, it suddenly feels more natural.
We regularly see couples mixing 3rd person in with 1st, but in our opinion, that feels messy and confusing. One moment you're talking about Taylor and Justin meeting at Starbucks, and the next you're sharing how you felt when he was down in one knee. Without any break in between. Keep to one point of view if you want to keep readers engaged.
Our favorite love stories come from both partners, and are written in the first person. You can come together at the beginning, or the end, but it's great to feel the personality from both people in the relationship, rather than having everything come from a collective voice.
Break it up
The writing process for your website should not feel like homework, or an extension of the working day. It should be fun. An enjoyable jaunt down memory lane together, and an excuse to share just how wonderful you think your partner is. Keep it exciting by not punishing yourself for not finishing it in one sitting, or overly worrying about the words you've written.
Don't Force the Writing Process
The writing process for your website should not feel like homework, or an extension of the working day. It should be fun. An enjoyable jaunt down memory lane together, and an excuse to share just how wonderful you think your partner is. Keep it exciting by not punishing yourself for not finishing it in one sitting, or overly worrying about the words you've written.
We would suggest taking notes, and chatting with your partner about what you'd like to write, before even starting a custom wedding website. Having a fun foundation of thoughts jotted down, perhaps over a couple of glasses of wine, will inspire you greatly when you actually sit down to write. And, if you only manage a line or two the first time you start to write, don't worry! Step away, take your time, and go again when inspiration strikes.
